DEQ is a state department created by the Idaho Environmental Protection and Health Act to ensure clean air, water, and land in the state and protect Idaho citizens from the adverse health impacts of pollution. As a regulatory agency, DEQ enforces various state environmental regulations and administers a number of federal environmental protection laws including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The agency is committed to working in partnership with local communities, businesses, and citizens to identify and implement cost-effective environmental solutions.

The modern Coeur d’ Alene Tribe is the sum of uncounted centuries and of untold generations. In the tribe’s own ancient language, it is called Schitsu’umsh, meaning “Those who are found here,” or “The discovered people.” It is important to the Tribe that when people are enjoying Coeur d’Alene Lake that they do so in a manner that is safe for the public and the environment and respectful of the values and interests of the Tribe.

Established January 23, 1915, Benewah County was named for the Coeur d’Alene Indian chief. Most settlers came to the area after the discovery of gold near St. Maries in 1880.
Kootenai County

Kootenai County is located in the northern Idaho Panhandle. Kootenai County is a destination location for regional, national and international travelers; recreational activities include hiking, bicycling, hunting, boating, fishing, and snow skiing. Historically, Kootenai County contains a significant portion of the center of the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Homeland as well as the primary east-west trail system for interior Salishan peoples traveling in both directions through the Bitterroot Mountains.

Panhandle Health District provides over 40 different public health programs to families, individuals and organizations in northern Idaho. From food and drinking water safety to health education and disease control, public health services are critical to ensure our community is a safe and healthy place to live, work and play. Panhandle Health District is one of seven health districts in the state of Idaho.
Restoration Partnership

The Restoration Partnership is the Coeur d’Alene Natural Resource Trustees working together with the public to develop and implement a restoration plan for the Coeur d’Alene Basin. The Trustees are the U.S. Department of Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Coeur d’Alene Tribe and State of Idaho and our role is to return natural resources, that have been harmed by mine-waste contamination, to a healthy condition.

The Coeur d’Alene Lake Collaborative represents the partnership effort of all stakeholders in the Coeur d’Alene Basin to protect and improve the water quality in Coeur d’Alene Lake. The guiding document for these efforts is the 2009 Coeur d’Alene Lake Management Plan, which was co-authored by the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and the State of Idaho. The Tribe and State jointly administer this plan and coordinate the collective efforts of all partners.
